punto cero. La presencia es sincronía. Ya no pregunto más que hay
detrás de la ventana.

Project Window

"If it´s not on Facebook, it doesn´t exist.” Mrs.
Internet-Two-Point-Zero has changed all the definitions we had of
interpersonal relationships. That is, virtual interaction has become
able to create new reactions in individuals. Reality is more cyberpunk
than Gibson's Neuromancer. Every day is warm and sunny if we use face
to face with the right people. All the women of the world can seem
sexy in a day with good luck in Chat Roulette. 2.0 networks are the
space where we can generalize the bias. Where one exists without
success: we become a trace. We look at this trace from the window.

Roberto Bolaño finishes his book Savage Detectives (Detectives
Salvajes) with the question "What´s behind the window?”. Débora
Carnevali gives us one of the three million eight hundred and
forty-eight thousand two hundred ninety-two answers. Behind the window
there are people. Social networks have become the unit of measurement
that indicates the dimensions of a person. Ergo: presence is
kilobytes.

Dramatic theory recognizes four walls. The fourth is pact F, which the
receiver accepts implicitly. They also call it axis Z. One of the
major innovations in twentieth century art has been the inclusion of
the receiver as a builder of the meaning of an artwork. “The author is
dead” said Roland Barthes. In Project Window, Débora Carnevali changes
our perception of the presence of the receptor. The receptor is
present in two geographic locations simultaneously. When virtuality
surpasses the laws of physics it becomes something much more relative,
either putting up with a drunk gringo getting wasted on Yucatecan beer
or a group of Spanish tourists in a gallery drinking Chilean Pisco, or
women in light clothing dancing to surf music at a gallery in Merida
and a photographer caught the nipples shouting nasty compliments to a
Chilean woman, and the interaction between two cameras that are
photographing each other from distant points on the planet.

Project Window is an invitation to rethink the concepts of presence
and existence. Now, social networking projects and its importance in
daily life show that beyond the window there are new rules that can
only take us anywhere.

The window is the space beyond presence.

Today we are voyeurs and participants of life on the Internet.
Existence is digital. Life is Photoshop. Relationships are 2.0.
Presence is synchrony. I´ll stop asking what´s behind the window.
